New Jersey Transit Adding new Atlantic City Line

Earlier this week, the New Jersey Transit announced the authorization of a contract which will create the first direct linking of its two South Jersey rail services. The Pennsauken Transit Center will now link the River Line rail system to the Atlantic City Rail Line. The contract permits the construction of a 200-foot platform with a 60-foot canopy for all riders who board the River Line trains. It also allows for updates to security, ticket vending machines, drainage and other maintainence services, and lighting. On the Atlantic City side of things, a pair of 300-foot-long platforms will be build on both sides of the Atlantic City tracks, stairs, and two elevators to provide accessibility for disabled riders.

In addition to the additional access to rail services this will provide, the station will also provide access to the NJ Transit bus service.

Work on the project is expected to begin this fall and be completed by the end of 2012.
